when some cats come into the shelter, they are very frightened. as shelter staff, it is your job to reassure them they are safe. this is done through towels. we hang towels in front of the cages so they can hide behind them. we also give them towels inside of the cage so they can bury themselves underneath them. a towel goes a long damn way in an animal shelter. little pete is terrified. you can tell because his pupils are very big and he was found under the towel. don’t worry. i fixed him all up after i took the photo. we love you pete. things will get better from here.

It is… people think it is a petting zoo and they don’t realize these animals may be traumatized. It’s very frustrating to have to dispel the myth every day.
